On December 27, 2025, three new Beijing subway sections were put into operation, highlighting the booming layout of vending machines in China's metro networks. The new lines alone are equipped with 68 self-service devices—including 29 dedicated food and beverage vending machines deployed at 12 stations on Lines 18 and 6—alongside 6 featured services (cafes, self-service stores) and 12 new-format points (lockers, flower cabinets, robotic drink stations). This dense vending configuration has become a hallmark of Beijing's metro service upgrade.
These vending machines are tailored to metro scenarios, offering mineral water, juice, tea and functional drinks to meet passengers' instant needs. Supporting cashless payments via scan-code and face-scan, they enable quick transactions for time-pressed commuters, becoming an indispensable part of daily transit.
Metros have emerged as the core battlefield for China's smart vending industry, with vending machines densely scattered across stations nationwide. Beijing Metro alone operates over 1,900 commercial self-service devices, covering 97.25% of stations, and its convenience facilities served over 10 million passengers in the first half of 2025, a year-on-year increase of 20%. Driven by upgraded transit networks and rigid instant consumption demand, the metro vending market grows over 15% annually, spurring demand for intelligent, scenario-specific solutions.
